Why the Republicans Are in Big Trouble This Election Year

On this blog, I discuss important national issues, often focusing on fiscal and economic matters.  Lately, I have been discussing why the U.S. is such a strong country.

The midterm elections are rapidly approaching, and the Republicans are in deep trouble.  Here’s why.  According to a recent Fox News Poll (see chart below), the main issues voters care about are all detrimental to Republicans.

Consider:

  • Corruption in government, considered serious by 88% of voters. The problem is the corruption of the President himself.  It is estimated that the Trump family has increased its wealth by $4 billion since January 2025, among many other examples of Trump corruption.
  • Inflation and high prices, considered serious by 85% of voters. Our recent inflation started under Biden but it is still too high (latest CPI figure is 3.7%).  Furthermore, Trump’s arbitrary and capricious tariffs are making it worse.
  • Gas prices, considered high by 82% of voters. Again, it is Trump’s Iran War that is responsible for the current rise in gas prices.
  • Healthcare, considered too expensive by 80% of voters. This is mostly a general inflationary increase, but the Republicans are in charge and aren’t doing anything about it.
  • Government leadership, considered poor by 79% of voters. Again, Trump is in charge, so he gets the blame for this.
  • The war in Iran, considered a problem by 75% of voters. This is considered to be Trump’s war, so he gets the blame for this.
  • Crime, Artificial intelligence technology, Immigration, What’s taught in public schools, Voter suppression, Voter security, Voter fraud (issues where Trump and Republicans are doing a better job), rank lower in voter concern, and so do not offset the more negative ratings (on issues for which Republicans are responsible) at the top of the list.

Conclusion.  In overall voter impressions, the Republicans are primarily responsible for the biggest problems facing our country.  That’s why they are lagging in the polls for the upcoming elections.
